The Growing Years Childcare
Welcome to The Growing Years Childcare located in Saco, Maine. We are a licensed, play-based learning program that focuses on teaching the “Whole child”. We use a four method approach to ensure a well-rounded learning experience through Play, Literacy, Physical Activity, and Emotional Health.
With a unique approach to childcare, The Growing Years blends the spacious classrooms of a childcare center and the small class size of a home-based childcare. Our school prides itself on professionalism and dedicated teachers caring for children ages 2 through 5 years old.
Our Mission
Research shows that children learn best in Play-Based Learning programs. At The Growing Years Childcare, we believe that children learn by exploring and playing, and are equipped to lead their own learning. Our child-led and learning by inquiry methods evoke curiosity and encourage play. Our school is thoughtfully constructed with a calming and inviting space that fosters imagination and creativity, and aids in critical thinking.
Children are natural investigators, and our toys and materials represent all age groups. For our young toddlers, climbing mats, mirrors, and activity walls spark interest and engagement. For our older toddlers and preschoolers, dramatic play, sensory play, and creative art play will help expose your child to the tools needed to be engaged in the learning process. We also pride ourselves on our commitment to provide your child with ample outdoor play. Our outdoor classrooms and playground are enchanting and inviting!
An encouraging and enriching preschool program is also incorporated into the curriculum. TGY creates its own curriculum, teaching to Maine’s Early Learning Standards. It accommodates a multi-age classroom, and provides an engaging preschool curriculum for children 2 through 5 years.
Classroom
Our two-room classroom provides a neutral, calm, and soothing atmosphere adorned with materials that inspire open-ended play. Open-ended play is crucial in social development as children explore ideas and engage in new concepts. We believe in teaching the whole child and support their development both educationally and socially. We achieve this with our 4 method approach along with nurturing our students and making them feel valued.
Child development is unique in that it isn’t specific to months or years. Children learn at their own pace. Socializing with children in other age groups can help teach critical thinking and model positive behavior. The Growing Years Childcare meets each child where they are developmentally.
